7 July

Mackay Marina

I'm back in town after my visit to Sydney.  Friday night was my daughter's 21st birthday dinner, and was a special night for all of us I think.

The weather has closed in, with very grey skies and cold winds.  My crew for the next leg, my very old friends David and Anne, arrived here two days ago and have spent their time in and around Mackay.  By a very strange coincidence, the passenger sitting next to me on the plane from Brisbane was the owner of the boat moored next to Gypsy Princess in the marina.  We spent the flight discussing a myriad of cruising topics and comparing details of our boats and experiences.  What a great way to spend time on a plane.

The afternoon was devoted to shopping for our meat and perishables, followed by a very enjoyable dinner at a Cuban restaurant.  We intend to leave tomorrow, although talk amongst the rest of the crews is that the weather will be too uncomfortable for that.  We'll wait and see.
