Border Island

Today was a quiet one spent in our overnight anchorage of Cateran Bay on Border Island.  This gave us a chance for a walk ashore and for a quick snorkel later on.

Back in the 1980s when I first started sailing here, Border Island was a bit of an outpost.  It's on the outside of the Whitsunday Passage and was probably considered a slightly "harder" anchorage than most, so tended to be left alone by many bareboaters.  It's now loved to death.  Its once beautiful coral gardens are now largely gone, thanks to anchor chains and Cyclone Debbie.  Its original goat track over the saddle to the southern side is now a much more formal affair and attracts many visitors.  Well, that's progress I guess.

The shore visit lasted a few hours and included time just enjoying the beach.  Every so often it's nice to have a quiet one like this.
