27 July

Airlie Beach to Macona Inlet

The bulk of today was spent in departure preparations.  Getting last minute things stowed away, disposing of the car we'd had for the past day, shopping for snorkelling gear, running through a safety briefing and filling the water tanks.  Even after we left the marina berth (in perfect sunshine and a light breeze), there was refuelling to be done.  We finally left the harbour around 2pm.

My plan for the coming week is to visit some of the highlights of the Whitsundays area, allow plenty of time for swimming, snorkelling and walking and to be at Hamilton Island in around 5 to 6 days to top up our water tanks and refresh supplies of perishables.  Butterfly Bay would have been an excellent first night but the lack of time demanded something closer.  Macona Inlet seemed an ideal choice for our first night out.

I admit to having no photos to show.  Probably a combination of our slightly late departure and the fact that I'd been there only several days before.  Not to worry, there'll be plenty of photos and videos to come.

I'm also aware that my carefully laid out travel map will start to resemble a lump of spaghetti as we rewind our way around already covered territory.  I'll try to manage that as simply as I can.
